30 Members of Congress Reject Anti-Palestinian Resolution

Thirty members of the House of Representatives voted against a bill which laid exclusive blame for the violence in Israeli/Palestinian clashes on the Palestinians. Each of the thirty votes against a one-sided and biased resolution was an act of principle and conscience which deserves our immediate thanks.

H.Con.Res. 426 condemns the Palestinian leadership for encouraging the violence and doing so little for so long to stop it, resulting in the senseless loss of life. It urged the Palestinian leadership to vigorously use its security forces to stop all violence.

This resolution stands in contradiction to the recent UN Security Council Resolution 1322, which condemned acts of violence, especially the use of force against Palestinians, resulting in injury and loss of human life. It called on Israel, the occupying power to abide scrupulously to its legal obligations and responsibilities under the Fourth Geneva Convention regarding the protection of civilian populations during time of war.

The thirty members who voted against the resolution were:

Rep. David Bonior (D-MI)
Rich Boucher (D-VA)
William Bill Clay (D-MO)
Eva Clayton (D-NC)
Tom Coburn (R-OK)
