Seventy-Years-Old Abu Hassan was Visiting His Daughter When an Israeli Bullet Penetrated his Neck
February 19, 2001
The 70-years-old Abdallah Juda (Abu Hassan), Rafah citizen, was the victim of the
Israeli attack against Khan Yunis last Monday. Abu Hassan was
immediately transferred to Nasir Hospital at Khan Yunis camp and underwent an
emergency surgery. Abu Hassan said that he was injured severely while he was
visiting his daughter in Khan Yunis.
While he was sitting, with the members of his daughter's family, an
Israeli bullet penetrated the window of the room and stayed in his neck. A
Member of Abu Hassan's family asserted that Abu Hassan fell down while he was
sitting in the room with his family members. He said that they did not know the
cause of the fall at that time. They immediately transferred Abu Hassan to Nasir
Hospital at Khan Younis camp. Due to his very unstable dangerous state
condition, doctors of Nasir Hospital decided to transfer Abu Hassan to A-Shefa
Hospital for an emergency surgery.
His grandson, who accompanied him to Al-Shefa Hospital, asserted that the
Israeli soldiers retarded moving the ambulance and that they insulted the
Medical Staff who accompanied the injured to the Hospital. His grandson added
that the Israeli soldiers even did not take his grandfather's old age into
consideration and that they responded not to any of the family's members'
attempts to save the old man's life. When Abu Hassan arrived to Al-Shefa
Hospital, he was entered to the Intensive Care Unit and was operated on
immediately, which lasted for three hours and was supervised by different-major
doctors.
Medical resources at Al-Shefa Hospital confirmed that Abu Hassan was shot at the
second vertebral of his neck. The injury caused hemiplegia at
the right part of his body. Same resources added that Abu Hassan is in stable
situation and that he still needs a long period of treatment.
